TRANSPORTATION NEWS:

Pupil Transportation in the U.S. is a large enterprise involving some 25 million children and nearly a half million buses moving them to and from schools every school day. In fact, school buses are the largest form of mass transit in the country.

Students from across the nation will return to school and many will do so via the yellow school bus. The school bus industry is dealing with a significant shortage of school bus drivers —a complex problem that pre-dated but was exacerbated by COVID school shutdowns. The driver shortage remains a high priority for districts, as does maintaining the safety record of large yellow school buses, consistently the best in the transportation industry. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) underscores it’s the safest way for children to get to and from school.

Furthermore, it is important to note that the entire transportation sector, including airlines, motorcoach operators, trains and rideshare companies, along with many other industries, are experiencing staff shortages that impact operations.

Yet this year, addressing the driver shortage feels different for the leaders of the National Association for Pupil Transportation (NAPT®). Why? President, Rick Grisham, explains “The school bus driver shortage is not a new issue, and yet there is an immediate and deeper need from pupil transportation professionals to respond to it with innovative and existing tactics in order to provide students the safety, security, and normalcy that they all so deeply crave and deserve since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Grisham adds “NAPT®’s vision is “a world where every student has access to safe and efficient transportation,” and therefore, the leadership of NAPT® will continue to be part of the solution that combats the driver shortage by tirelessly checking in with ourselves and our members to ensure that the work we are doing reflects our vision.”

Support and Solutions:

While there are always inevitable variations in service caused by the unavoidable, traffic conditions, accidents, and weather, on time performance is the reality experienced by most children and families served by the school bus industry.

In fact, during recent town hall meetings conducted across various NAPT® regions, association leadership heard from members who are doing everything that they possibly can to resolve the driver shortage in their districts to facilitate on time performance.

MARCH MADNESS

Wow March already and spring is here? LOL. During spring break, we get a chance to catch up with the time change, go places see new things experience life as we know it. It gives our mechanics a chance to get repairs done in a timelier manner. Don’t get too laid back now because school is back in session again and we only have a couple of months to wrap up this year of school. Hit the books hard and come down the final stretch strong. Mother nature will be starting to wake up soon, days getting longer, lights getting stronger, and Sunshine.

IMAGINE John Lennon said it best, still holds true today.

Imagine there’s no Heaven, It’s easy if you try
No Hell below us. Above us only sky

Imagine all the people. Livin’ for today. Aaa haa

Imagine there’s no countries. It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for. And no religion too

Imagine all the people. Livin’ life in peace. Yoo hoo

You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions. I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger. A brotherhood of man

Imagine all the people. Sharin’ all the world. Yoo hoo

You may say I’m a dreamer. But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us. And the world will live as one

February Valentines:

Hey, February weather is turning out not to bad. Maybe Woodstock Willie was right!

How about treating your sweetie right this Valentine’s Day and get out of the house and come on over to our Family to drive a school bus! Everyone needs a little me time. We are happy to get you all set up and train on site.

The governor is working on the mask mandate for the state, but that does not affect the school bus. We all still need to wear a mask on the bus as per the federal mandate. The students in Barrington have been very accommodating on this also. We appreciate all the help from the parents on keeping your children up to date on the mask mandate and the safety for all. Stay safe, Stay healthy, Stay warm.

NEW YEAR 2022 COLD WEATHER

WOW it’s a cold January. Stay bundled up dress for the weather. It’s Hard to get those buses started up on such a cold month, good thing we have an excellent crew to get the job done. Looking for more people of excellence to add to our family. Come on board we can help you obtain your goals of becoming a school bus driver.

Driving through the snow this winter and making sure we get our children to school in a timely manner can be challenging. Some of the equipment provided by our District 220 has made it easier to do our job, making it almost failsafe. A lot goes into the behind the scenes of a school bus route. Please be kind to the drivers and courteous to let them out into traffic. They have a lot of students trying to get to school or home and a lot of stops to make to make it all work. Want to know more let me know.
